Report from Rob Miller on the first FCC colts match vs Burpham Sat 22nd Aug 2015:

In hot sunshine Burpham batted first with the youngest players facing each other. In one over spells, Henry Gibbs and Oliver Heron-Woods opened the bowling for Ferring , followed by Archie Finch and Matty Smith.

The boys fielded enthusiastically with Oliver, Luke Day and captain,Harron Suganathan, taking good catches, and 3 run outs achieved. Josh Poynter bowled with good pace and Matty and Harran completed their overs without conceding a wide . Harvey Moore took 2 wickets, with a wicket each for Luke, Jake Awde, Joseph Keegan and Harran. During their innings we took 9 wickets, ( at minus 5 runs a wicket ) and they finished on 265 ( each side starting with 200 runs apiece ). Extras ( 2 runs for each wide/no ball ) contributed 52 to a young Burpham side's score ( something to work on ! )

Ferring openers Henry Gibbs and Samuel Mates started steadily, and with each pair batting two overs we gradually got closer to their score. Jake, Tyler McCreanney, Joseph , Harvey , Andrew Mates, Oliver and Harran all hitting boundaries.

With some good running between wickets we reached 265 with one over to go, having only lost 3 wickets.( - 15 runs ). Tyler and Joseph kept their cool to hit 7 off the last over without losing a wicket so FCC Colts won by 7 runs .

Well done boys ! Thanks to Ian Edwards ,Colin Oliver Redgate ,Tony Poynter and Carl Tupper for coming to the match, all the parents who turned out to support the boys in numbers, Lisa for organising the colts/parents so well for the day and the whole year, and Matt Reynolds for his season's coaching and match management.

Finally , thanks to Burpham Cricket Club for hosting the match and putting on food and drinks after the game.
